The Ylläs area is divided into two charming villages on opposite sides of the fell: Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi, both offering a wealth of cottages suitable for larger groups.
Located on the north-western side of Ylläs, Äkäslompolo is a tourist village that has attracted visitors from the south since the 1930s. In addition to rentable cottages, apartments, and holiday homes, Äkäslompolo offers all essential services for your trip: plenty of shopping opportunities, the famous Jounin Kauppa, restaurants, cafés, and programme service companies. It is only a 7-kilometre journey from Äkäslompolo to the Ylläs slopes. On the opposite side of Ylläs lies the village of Ylläsjärvi, which also offers a wide range of accommodation options, including cottages, villas, and ski-in apartments. Besides accommodation services, Ylläsjärvi features a spa, a shop, a bowling alley, and Ylläs's only gondola lift.
